An elderly woman was rescued from a burning home in Roslyn Heights on Father’s Day night after firefighters from several Nassau County volunteer fire departments worked together to find her in the basement.

The fire broke out at a two-story home on Schoolhouse Lane around 11 p.m. on June 21. Nassau County received multiple calls reporting the flames, and the Albertson Fire Department quickly responded.

Albertson Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Thomas Falls said firefighters were told that someone might be trapped inside.

“We had a quick team put together, and we immediately started searching the structure,” Falls said. “As soon as I made it to the bottom of the stairs, she was right there.”

Falls said the woman was found in the basement just a few feet from the stairs and was brought out quickly for medical care.

Capt. John McCormack of the Roslyn Rescue Fire Company said the rescue felt automatic because of training.
